Abstract
ABSTRACT PT. Lafarge Cement Indonesia is a cement industry company, which the main business engaged in the mining activity of a limestone (batu gamping). The company is located at Desa Mon Ikeun, Kecamatan Lhoknga, Kabupaten Aceh Besar. The mining activities cover almost everything from land clearing, dismanting, loading, delivery, until processing. In this sequence of mining activites, PT. Lafarge Cement Indonesia trust their partner PT. Macmahon which was a service company that have expertise in the mining activities, to do the daily mining operation. PT. Lafarge Cement Indonesia have established Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent any accident and/or sickness caused by the mining activity. This SOP however, sometimes is not consistantly followed by all the workers therefore any unintended accident still potentially can be occured. The accident is likely to occur in the process of land clearing, dismanting, loading where the condition of the road in ming site are mostly unsafe, and when the workers did not fully equip themselves with their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). There are significant obstacles in the implementation of safety and health policy that need to be solved in order to support related program which have been planned by the management. The company is expected to improve their effectiveness and efficiencies in managing and implementing their safety and health policies for their workers. The company should evaluate their management performance as whether or not they already have a good governance over the workforce. In addition, the SOP it self must be evaluated to be perfectly fit with the mining site condition and environment. Furthermore, continuous and more effective socialization regarding the importance of wearing PPE need to be done. Last but not least, strict punishment and tantalize reward policies are likely to be established so that the workers will get motivated to follow and obey the SOP. Proper implementation from complete evaluation will help the management to conduct ever better safety and health policies. With better policies and SOP, the management then can minimize the probability of any accident and/or sickness that can be happened in the working area and during the working hours. Thus, both management and workers can safely working together in the mining site of PT. Lafarge Cement Indonesia.
