Drugs in Indonesia has been getting into critical period and coming through serious problem. Mostly prisoners were dominated by drug cases. Narcotics rehabilitation institution class II A Yogyakarta is the only rehabilitation institution in Yogyakarta focused to educate the prisoners of narcotics cases. This research identified what factors which caused the rehabilitation failure in Narcotics prisons. The identification will become the fundamental model to establish more effective communication patterns for counselor officers in rehabilitating narcotics prisoners. Communication within the correctional institution was an important part of the maintenance process. This research was conducted to find the effective model of communication development within counselors in Narcotics prisons Class II A in rehabilitating prisoners. This study used a qualitative method approach utilized to clarify the picture of the effective communication models implemented by the counselors in Narcotics Prison Class II A Sleman Yogyakarta, especially to rehabilitate the narcotics prisoners. Based on the research that has been found, It was shown that the communication patterns and rehabilitation guidance through drug users in prisons Class II A Yogyakarta involving two patterns. First, informal communication and formal communication patterns. The second concept is carried out by therapeutic community as a method aimed for the social rehabilitation of drug users. This is still a new developing concept in prison Class II A Yogyakarta. Those identified communication patterns were aimed to encourage target people to be recured after demanding on drugs, educate them about legal awareness, reintegrate them into society, reinforce in job skills coaching, and establish the counseling and rehabilitation programs.
