Abstract

The capability and sustainability of soil are limited. The limited of capability and sustainability are caused genetic prosess and also by disturbance of the soils. If the used of soils exceed the capability and sustainability, soil function will be decreased and and then the production will be decreased too. The aim of this study was to know the change of soil quality, both of physical properties and chemical propery consistties of soil after the production of bricks with calculate the soil quality index. The study held on Jambidan Banguntapan Bantul DIY. Purposive method was use to soil sampling. The sampling based on depth of digging the soil. The first, second and third were 1, 2, 3 metres of digging respectively. The fourth location wos not digging. The parameters of this study consist of rooting depth, soil bulk density, total porosity, agregate stability, organic carbon, total N, available P, exchangeable K, nitrate and pH. Mausbach and Seybold criteria (1998) was used to calculate soil quality index. The result showed soil quality index from the low to the high are 3, 2, 1 metres of digging and was not digging respectively. The parameters were significantly effect to the soil quality index were : rooting depth (r=0,97**), organic carbon (r=0,92**), and agregate stability (r=0,77**) Keywords : soil quality, soil quality index, after the production bricks
