Abstract

ABSTRACT (Characterization of Penicillium sp. and Trichoderma sp. Endofitic Isolate as Plant Growth Promoting Fungi (PGPF) (Tuti Setyaningrum and Yanisworo Wijaya Ratih): The aim of this study was to observe the capability of the fungal isolate of Penicillium sp. and Trichoderma sp. as Plant Growth Promoting Fungi (PGPF) by examination of their capability to produce phytohormone, degrade organic mater, and dissolve phosphate which the third of them are part of soil fungi mechanism as PGPF. The examination of phytohormone production were based on the amount of IAA produce. The capability to degrade organic matter was tested by using the rice straw and the measuring of degradation activity was by measure the CO2 produce. The capability of phosphate dissolve was conducted by grow the isolate on Pikovskaya solid medium and observe the clear zone that appear around the colony. Trichoderma sp. dan Penicillium sp. were able to produce IAA.The IAA produce was depend on Triptophan existence. Penicillium sp. produce more IAA than Trichoderma sp. with the maximum amount of IAA that produce by Penicillium sp. and Trichoderma sp. were 15.81 ppm and 1.75 ppm respectively. Trichoderma sp. and Penicillium sp. have the capability to degrade organic matter, rice straw. The maximum degradation activity was occur on the 8th day of incubation period. The capability of Penicillium sp to degrade rice straw was more than Trichoderma sp. The amount of CO2 produce by Trichoderma sp. and Penicillium sp. during 28 days incubation were 112.33 and 176.14 mg/g material. Both of Penicillium sp. or Trichoderma sp., were not able to dissolve phosphate. Keywords: Penicillium sp., Trichoderma sp., IAA, organic matter, phosphate
