Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of organic waste of market compost and the effect on plant growth. The method used atrial with completely randomized design with one treatment factors: compost from the waste of mustard leaf (A), celery leaf (B), “Duku” leaf (C), leaves of pineapple skin (D), rice straw (E), “ketapang” leaves (F), “The Center of Agribusiness” compost (G), and without compost (H). Each treatment was repeated by three times. The parameter of compost quality research consisted of pH, organic-C levels, total nitrogen, C / N ratio, available phosphorus, available potassium levels, lime content and plant heigh, , fresh weight and dry weight of plants. The results showed that the quality of the compost which produced from by organic market waste has some characteristics:alkalin pH higher than standard, levels of C organic of liquid compost is lower the stnadard but solid is above standard, total nitrogen level of the compost is above the stnadard, the carbon and nitrogen ratio of the compost from pineapple, straw,”ketapang” leaves were above the standard, available phosphorus level is below the standard, available potassium level above the standard, CaO lime content is on the standard, The compost produced from organic market waste has not significant effect but can promote the growth of plant height, fresh weight and dry weight of corn plants. Keywords: quality, compost, organic waste, growth, plant
