Abstract

The proper handling of outlier high grade in precious metal deposits is crucial to geostatistical ore reserve estimation. Ordinary kriging (OK), which is widely used to estimate the ore reserves for many deposits, is not quite suited for handling such outlier data because of its grade independent weighting scheme. This paper present a new weighted jackknife kriging (WJK) algorithm, which can be a simple and a practical tool to use where OK will fail to handle the outlier high grade data properly in assigning the block grade. The appeal of the weighted jackknife kriging in geostatistical ore reserve estimation lies in its simplicity and robustness.
