Abstract

Paleozoic-Mesozoic geology of the Meratus Complex, SE Kalimantan was dominated by crystalline rocks. The Late Carboniferous-Early Permian, syn-COLL granite of Lumo, near Buntok is the oldest dated plutonic rock. Their micas yield K-Ar ages of 319 ± 1,7 Ma and 260 ± 1,66 Ma. To the east, small outcrop of the Late Jurassic Purui Dalam oceanic trondhjemite is overlaid by Late Cretaceous turbidites and volcanic. The mid oceanic plagio-granite yields K-Ar age of 155 Ma. Further to the southeast, huge Alkaline-Calc Alkaline Volcanic Arc granitoid and diorite are found in the main body of the Meratus Complex. They consist of trondhjemite, granite, tonalite, diorite, and subordinate leuco-gabbro and are out cropped at Riam Andungan, Hajawa in eastern flank and at Batangalai to the center of the complex. K-Ar dating of Batangalai granite yield 118.61 ± 1.45 Ma and 101 ± 2.6 Ma, of Hajawa granitoid yields 87.184 ± 1.04 Ma up to 70.96 ± 0.49 Ma and of Riam Andungan trondhjemite yields 92 ± 2 Ma. During their emplacement, hot plutons of the Batangalai Plutons had influenced surrounding wall rocks as shown in many localities in River of Batangalai. Leuco-gabbro, diorite and granitoid intruded biotite-quartz schist and their thermal effect generated contact metamorphism to the country rocks. Formation of high temperature minerals of cummingtonite + anthophyllite + cordierite + andalusite were introduced in garnet-biotite-plagioclase-quartz assemblages especially close to the body of plutons. Porphyroblasts of garnet were commonly replaced by cordierite + quartz + andesine. U-Pb SHRIMP zircon dating of leuco-gabbro and metapelite hornfels yield 115 ± 2 Ma and 118.3 ± 2.6 Ma respectively, which are consistent to previous K-Ar aging of Batangalai granite. This event asserts high temperature metamorphism occurred during Cretaceous Time simultaneously with emplacement of Calc-Alkaline Volcanic Arc magmatic products in the Central Meratus Complex. Keywords: plagio-granite, granitoid, metapelite hornfels, thermal effect, country rock, U-Pb SHRIMP zircon
