Abstract

G. Merapi is one of the most active volcanoes in the world with the eruption period between 1-5 years once (Sulistiyo and Sutaningsih, 2009). Two of the last eruption on the 26th October 2010, which swept the heat clouds Pangukrejo Village, and Village Kaliadem including Kinahrejo, residence mbah Marijan devastated. Next is the eruption of November 5, 2010, which claimed more victims again. With a recurrent eruption hence must be wise in implementing land conservation. The purpose of literature study and conservation of this idea, to find out characteristics of cold lava G. Merapi and alternatives to conserve the plant Canavalia virosa in disaster-prone areas. Most of the data derived from literature data set from 1976 to 2010 by year of eruption G. Merapi, after that the authors interpret these data to be written, both the chemical composition of lava, tephra composition, rock-forming mineral composition and physical and chemical properties of soil. While a small portion of data derived from research data writer in 2009, primarily as a crop plant conservation Canavalia virosa. The interpretation of data showing the chemical composition of lava, tephra composition, the composition of rock-forming minerals, physical properties of the composition is almost the same year to year, only the frequency of recurrence eruption G. Merapi is not the same, so that conservation measures must be wise. The authors propose an alternative crop for the conservation of the three disaster-prone areas is to use plants Canavalia virosa. Keywords: Cold lava characteristic, conservation, Canavalia virosa.
