Abstract

This study aims to determine the best dosage and time of application as well as their
interaction, from mix mesotrion and atrazine herbicide on weed control, and the
effect on the growth and yield of sweet corn. This research was conducted in the
laboratory of experimental gardens, Faculty of Agriculture UPN "Veteran"
Yogyakarta, Wedomartani, Ngemplak, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Province from
May to August 2016. This research was conducted by the method of factorial field
trials in Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD), with two treatment factors.
The first factor is the dose of the herbicide mixture mesotrion and atrazine, which
consists of three levels, namely: D1 (1 l / ha), D2 (1.5 l / ha), D3 (2 l / ha). The second
factor is herbicide application consisting of three levels, namely: W1 (7 days), W2 (10
days), W3 (13 days). The parameters of observation weeds are weeds vegetation
analysis, and the populations of species of weeds before tillage. The parameters of
observation plant sweet corn, is a variety of observations, namely, plant height, leaf
number, leaf length, leaf width, stem diameter plant, cob length fruit, cob diameter
fruit, corncob fruit with husks, corncob fruit without husks, and yield per plot trial.
The observations, analyzed its diversity. To determine the effect of different
treatments, Duncan's Multiple Range Test performed. To test the difference of
influence, factorial treatment and control treatment, orthogonal contrast test was used.
The results of the study treatment dose and time of application, mesotrion and
atrazine herbicide mixture, showed the best result in the 2MST plant height, number
of leaves on 2MST, number of leaves on 6 MST, stem diameter at 2 MST. In the
treatment dose of the herbicide mixture mesotrion and atrazine, the best results are
shown in W1 treatment (7 HST), whereas the treatment time of application, mesotrion
and atrazine herbicide mixtures, the best results are shown in treatment W3 (13 HST).
